50 Stories of Hope #36: Ryan and Joanna’s Story

STORY 36/50: When we started to pursue adoption in 2016, we carefully considered adoption agencies throughout the metro area. We wanted to work with an agency that was both ethical and intentional with each member of the adoption relationship. It became very clear God was directing us to New Life through it being our #1 matched agency in surveys and receiving multiple personal recommendations.

In the two years from our initial application to the adoption of our oldest son, Jake, the education New Life provided was instrumental in how we felt comfortable getting to know Jake’s birth mom and family. The seminars, videos, book recommendations, and guidance from our social worker has helped us navigate two transracial adoptions in a gospel-centered way. As a family, we welcomed Javi and his biological family into our lives in the spring of 2020.

In the last five years, we’ve further developed relationships with both Jake and Javi’s birth moms. New Life taught us to tell our boys their stories from the beginning, and this has proven to benefit them and help us refine how we communicate about adoption to them and others.

We can say firsthand New Life has a heart for each individual involved in an adoption. We were supported before, during, and after each adoption by New Life. Our social worker, who we were blessed to work with for both adoptions, has been there for us in many ways.

We know New Life is available to our kids to help support and direct them as they grow up. We saw how New Life respected and cared for each of our kids’ birth moms, and they even told us that they felt New Life was there for them. This means the world to us, and we are so grateful for New Life.
